STUDS in Western Victoria opened their gates to plenty of visitors and prospective buyers during day five of Stock &amp; Land Beef Week.

NOORLA: Neil and Jessica Shepherd were participating in Stock & Land Beef Week for the tenth year in a row. Being the only breeders of Beef Shorthorns in South Australia, they said the breed is easy doing and perfect for cross breeding.

LYNTON PARK: Tony Jackson and Lynda Jones, Lynton Angus, Glencoe, SA, with their champion bull who has won at local shows and at Bendigo.

WAHROONGA WEST: Tash and Tim Millard with niece Mackenzie Millard, 11, and one of the five bulls they had on display at the Mt Gambier Showgrounds. Ms Millard said Maine Anjou cattle have a quiet temperament, and are easy doing.

MOUNT GAMBIER LIMOUSINS: Jason and father Athol Malseed with one of the three bulls they had on display at Stock & Land Beef Week. Mr Malseed said this bull won his age category and junior champion at Mt Gambier in 2016.

CONQUEST BEEF: Robert and Ian Aldridge from Conquest Beef. They have recently incorporated Charolais cattle into their herd after breeding Limousins since 1998, and Charolais before then.

CARA PARK: Roz Curtis, Cara Park Salers, Ob Flat, SA, with three of her young Salers bulls. Ms Curtis said Salers have good temperament, ease of calving, and are good doers.

BRA-MA: Stud principal Bray Milstead was happy to have already sold one bull at Stock & Land Beef Week. Mr Milstead had eight of his Hereford bulls on display at the showgrounds in Mt Gambier.

SIX CREEKS: Brad Creek, Six Creeks, Mt Gambier, has been infusing more black genetics into his Simmental herd. Mr Creek said Black Simmentals are a lot more functional.

RELLUM FARMS: Grantley and Chris Muller, Rellum Farms, Mt Gambier, had 22 bulls of mixed ages on display at Stock & Land Beef Week. They said Simmentals are good, all round cattle, and are very industry relevant.

CHALON: Graham Sims and Marg Williams run Poll Herefords and Maine Anjou cattle. They said they like the quietness of both breeds, as well as the meat value.

BOONAROO ANGUS: Jodie and Shane Foster, Boonaroo (centre) are pictured with John Uebergang, Kerr & Co Livestock, Scott Rentsch, Penshurst, Matthew Rentsch, Penshurst and Darren Rentsch, Penshurst.  Boonaroo have a new sale time this year, 11am vic time. 

GLENFERN: James Humphries with Sister Catherine with fellow Poll Hereford breeder Bill Lack, Willack Poll Herefords from near Heyfield. Glenfern is pleased to enter their 50th year of breeding Poll Herefords this year. 

GLENTANNER ANGUS: Brad and Allan Lucas, Glentanner Angus, made the journey across to Wannon, for their 2nd Beef Week Open day in Victoria with a small line of bulls. Glentanner are excited to introduce Elite Live Auctions to their sale this year.   

GRANGEBURN SIMMENTALS: Brodhi Carracher, Grangeburn Simmentals, opened his gates for Beef Week for the first time this year. Brodhi said he was keen to get involved in the Field Days to get his name out there as he is only a new stud.

MORGIANA CHAROLAIS: Jenny, Allan and Andrew Crozier (far right) are pictured with friends and clients Barb Peters, Hamilton, Ricky Willis, Wallacedale and Liz Jordan, Wallacedale. The Crozier’s are excited to be increasing the number of their poll bull offering. 

MURDEDUKE ANGUS: Simon Falkiner of Murdeduke is pictured with Dean and Kristen Fredricksen of Dalwhinnie Angus, Lucknow NSW. The Fredricksen’s are currently touring around during the Beef Week Field Days.

STONEY POINT ANGUS: Peter Colliver, Stoney Point was impressed with the turn out of people on the day that came and inspected their Naracoorte Sale Bulls. This year’s sires are Sitz Upward, Black Pearl, Equator A241 and Docklands.

TARONGA: Bill, Geoff and Tanya of Taronga Poll Herefords are pictured with John Pepper, “Pepper Partnership”, Tahara. Taronga had a fantastic day selling a total of 13 of their 20 bulls by 10:30am.  

BANEMORE: Banemore Poll Hereford principal David Jenkin with Landmark Casterton's Andrew Harrison with lots one and two of the stud's upcoming sale, Banemore Anzac L17 and Banemore Anzac L40. Both of these bulls have been used in the stud.

PATHFINDER: Nick and Sara Moyle, Pathfinder Angus, flank long-time clients Bruce and Scott Bell. 

PATHFINDER: Jordan Dwyer, 7, with brother Liam, 8, had come to have a look at Pathfinder Angus bulls with parents Anne and Andrw, who are return clients of the stud.

MILROY: William and Dianne Kinghorn, Milroy Hereford stud, flank Jan Pearse, Byaduk, and Jodie Annett, Macarthur, and were in the pen with rising two year-old bulls.

BASSANO: At Bassano Angus, Ron and Jane Stewart had sold 17 of the 27 bulls they had on after by mid afternoon. Mrs Stewart said it was interesting to note that the bulls that made the first and second highest prices were twins and the bulls that proved most popular were by Connealy Revenue and by Bassano Heath.

BASSANO: Bassano Angus's Ron and Jane Stewart with first-time visitor Colin Hill, Wurdi Boluc, who said he was impressed by the bulls, particularly by their docile temperaments. These bulls are 18 months-old.

MOORA: Barry and Linton Price with Moora Lyndhurst, which had been sold to Mundook Herefords, Bairnsdale. Barry said the principal of that stud had visited the stud during last year's Stock & Land Beef Week open day and wanted to come back this year to buy him at 23 months-old. The family is celebrating 60 years of breeding Poll Herefords, and the stud was founded by Barry's father Wallace.

WILKAH: Jenny Miekel, Coleraine, with Angela Lyons, Wilkah Herefordsa,with some of the bulls to be sold in late February.


IVANHOE: John Keiller, Cashmore Park, Portland, and Leo Cummins with this year's Ivanhoe Twinner cows.

LINDSAY: Happy with recent Western District weaner sales results Carmel and David Johnston, Strathdownie, along with Peter Callahan, Adelaide, inspect this year's bull and female offering, ably guided by the next generation of Lindsay Murray Grey principals Mitchell and Josh Grant.

ELOORA: Well known vet Karen King, Dunkeld; Eloora Shorthorn principal Dion Brooks; fellow vet William Symington, New Jersey USA; beef breeder Susie Clarke, Devon Park, Dunkeld; and Caroline Symington shared some healthy discussion on food production whilst looking at the Eloora studstock.

MELVILLE PARK: Ian Button, Elders Hamilton, and Melville Park host David Lyons joined Tamako Johnson, Nick Reid and Adrian Johnson from Tarrone to discuss the recent weaners sales and the upcoming Melville Park bull sale among plenty of other issues.

KURRA-WIRRA: Robert and Anthony Close with a pen of 1.5 year old Senegus Bulls, along with these bulls they have received interest in their Angus, Red Angus and Senegus seedstock from Northern and international buyers.

At Beef Week 2017 open day, Nick Moyle speaks about some of the exciting things that have happened at the family's Pathfinder Angus stud in the past 12 months.

Will Kinghorn speaks about how the strong beef cattle market has impacted his family's Milroy Hereford stud, Byaduk, and the benefits of taking part in Stock & Land Beef Week.

Alec Moore talks about the successes at Weeran Angus stud in the past year, including the team's move to develop their autumn calving herd by using embryo transfers.

Margaret Williams, Chalon Maine Anjou and Poll Herefords, had some of her cattle on display during Stock & Land Beef Week at the Mt Gambier Showgrounds. Ms Williams said it's important to bring cattle of different ages, in order to display how they will develop.

Chris Muller, Rellum Farms, Mt Gambier, SA said the Simmental breed is the family's breed of choice because of their overall durability.

Natasha Millard, Wahroonga West Maine Anjou, said Maine Anjou are easy going cattle, with quiet temperament.

Leo Cummins explains Twinner cattle and some of the successes the family has had with the breed, which was developed by the US Meat Animal Research Center.

Stock & Land stud stock representative Justin Conlan speaks to Dion Brook, Eloora Shorthorns, about the strength of the industry and the Shorthorn breed. The stud is hosting a beef cattle production information day on February 2, 2017.
