Overnight rainfall of 20mm saw crowd numbers almost outnumber cattle at Kyneton monthly store cattle sale on Wednesday, August-31st.
Demand, as a result, was extremely solid for a small 450-head penning as local restockers sought to fill empty paddocks after destocking earlier in the year.
A limited selection of quality steers were sold at price levels of 380-410c/kg lwt. Best Angus yearling-off steers, 360-450kg made $1430- $1510 a head while lighter, 280-360kg, weaners made $1200-$1460 to average 405c/kg.
A feature of the August sale was a well presented penning of first-calf Angus heifers, pregnancy tested in calf for spring calving. These made $1740 to $2030 a head while a yard of 2nd Angus heifers, also ptic, made $1900.
A small penning of cows and calves, presented in store condition, with grown calves at foot, made to $1900.
