Reserved feed lot competition and a strong order for St George, Qld underpinned demand in the absence of local competition at Kyneton’s annual weaner sale on Wednesday.
Offering a seasonally-affected mixed quality yarding of 1650-head, local sellers appeared pleased with steer sales that topped at $1280 a head for Angus weaners while heifer sales averaged 285 cents as the market displayed a decidedly cheaper trend on the past fortnight of sales.
The market top of $1280 a head was paid for the market best presented yard which was offered by the Shea family, Barfold.
Their yard of 21 Barfold Beef Angus weighed 404 kilograms while RC & EE Douglas, Cabarco sold the markets opening pen of 17 Angus steers 404kg for $1260.
Steer sales over the day averaged 300c/kg for the heaviest feeder-weight steers while heavier weaner steers, 280-360kg, made $860- $1110 a head and averaged 311c/kg lwt.
While the St George Qld order was a steady competitor for Angus steers its presence was clearly appreciate throughout the heifer sale where it dominated demand for Angus females.
The order throughout Ray White Sydney office paid $770-$1070 a head while the heifer to was $1120 paid by SA feeder, Thomas Foods.
