CATTLE values held firm at Kyneton store market, with heifers and joined cows sold slightly dearer than recent rates.
Kieran McGrath, McGrath Rodwells, Kyneton, said the 520 head yarding of cattle was in good condition despite dry conditions and a lack of feed, producing a solid result.
Steers returned 150-200 cents a kilogram, while weaner steers sold to $540 a head.
A lack of heifer numbers saw this section exceeding average prices, sold from $355-$450, while weaner heifers sold up to $440.
Brendan Coxon, Elders, Kyneton, said strong inquiries from processors saw joined cows sold $20-$30 dearer at $460-$570.
PJ Thomas, Shadwell, Sutton Grange, sold 42 Angus steer weaners from $440-$510 at 180-200c/kg.
M and P Smith from Yarrawalla sold 20 15-18-month Shorthorn steers in store condition from $475-$520.
Dephel Park, Romsey, sold 35 Angus mixed sex weaners, steers fetching up to $540 and heifers to $450.
Buyers came from Ballarat, Rochester, Kilmore, Gippsland, Geelong, Bendigo, Echuca and local areas.
