ENTHUSIASTIC buyers pushed cattle values up by as much as $10-$20 a head at the Pakenham store sale on Thursday, according to Rodwells’ Pat Reddan.

He attributed the spike in rates to recent rains and rising feeder prices, but largely because of some well-bred lines of steers and heifers in the sale’s 2600-head offering.
Elders' Denis Linley said the market was solid "without being silly".
He said there was strong feedlot competition, with an estimated 300-400 cattle sold to major feedlots.
Further buying support came from South and West Gippsland, as well as local areas.
Heavier steers were quoted from 185-200 cents a kilogram, depending on weight, while steer weaners returned 200-210c/kg.
Lighter weights sold at 220-240c/kg.
Mr Linley quoted the best of the heavy heifer weaners from 185-200c/kg, while the balance made 180-190c/kg.
