Department of Primary Industries senior subject specialist for climate change, Graeme Anderson, said the series, to begin on Tuesday, September 14, would focus on the Victorian Government’s Climate Change White Paper.
“The white paper explains how the Government is positioning Victoria to reduce emissions, capitalise on new jobs, new technologies and new markets and adapt to a changing climate,” Mr Anderson said.
The session will be led by David Griffin, manager of DPI’s Climate Change Policy Group, who will discuss actions in the white paper that relate to agricultural businesses and shed light on impacts they are likely to have.
“The monthly webinar involves a live presentation, followed by a discussion that all participants can join,” Mr Anderson said
“And the beauty is busy people can join the sessions from wherever they are via the internet, saving travel while hearing key insights in a short time.”
Mr Anderson will lead October’s webinar, which looks at four key drivers of Victoria’s rainfall.
He will explain how these drivers work and interact, when they bring rainfall (such as this year) and how some have been changing their behaviour over recent decades.
The November webinar, led by Mark Howden, Theme Leader for Adaptive Primary Industries at CSIRO, will look at how farmers are adapting their businesses to respond to climate change and variability.
