The blocking high that has been sending cooler southerly winds into the southeast will finally break down and push further north. This will allow skies to clear and warmer westerly winds to develop.
Adelaide will finally climb above their average temperature of 19 degrees today, something that has only happened three times this month. The warmest day will be Sunday as winds tend northwesterly ahead of a front, likely to be the warmest since May at 21 degrees.
For Melbourne's Grand Final weekend the maximums will reach 20 degrees for the first time in four and a half months. By game time on Saturday there may be a brief, light shower or two but will not be enough to hinder the game.
The heat will then slide up the east coast allowing Sydney to reach 26 degrees by Monday, potentially the warmest since May. Western suburbs may even climb as high as 29 degrees.
The spring spirits will be shattered for the start of the new week though as a cold front bursts into the southeast bringing temperatures back down by Tuesday.
