The Victorian Electoral Commission announced the provisional result for the eight upper house electoral regions yesterday, The Australian Financial Review reports.
The Coalition won several tight contests, including in the Northern Metropolitan and Northern Victorian regions, to win 21 seats in the 40- seat Legislative Council. The Greens held their three seats.
The upper house result clears the way for Premier Ted Baillieu to implement policies such as his abolition of suspended sentences, adjustments to Melbourne's urban growth boundary and promised changes to Labor's infrastructure tax.
