Acting Federal Opposition Leader Warren Truss visited bushfire affected areas in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley this morning looking at the damage of the bushfire which swept the region this week.
Mr Truss was joined by members of the Tasmanian Liberal Senate team, as well as State Opposition Leader Will Hodgman and Tasmanian Liberal MPs.
The group met with Ellendale farmers Jim and Pip Allwright whose property was damaged in the bushfires. Early estimates suggest the family has lost more than 1620ha of cherry, poppy and vegetable crops, with the damage bill expected to climb as high as $1 million.
