TASMANIA’s premier agricultural event, Agfest, finished on a high over the weekend, with more than 25,000 patrons pouring through the gates on a sun-kissed day at Carrick in the state’s north-east.
Saturday’s huge crowd brought total attendance numbers to more than 65,000 for the three-day event – up 4500 from the previous year – and chairman Amanda Bayles said organisers were delighted with the turnout.
“We had three really good days and the weather didn't deter as many people as it might have done,” she said.
Severe weather warnings with high winds and scattered showers were forecast for Friday but numbers still climbed to more than 20,000.
Ms Bayles, in her first year as Agfest chairman, said the decision to move the event in-line with school holidays had a positive affect on patron numbers.
“The school holidays really worked in our favour this year as families came down with their kids rather than just kids on a school excursion,” she said.
