A NICE shower of rain installed some confidence in the Yea special female sale today (Friday January 24), with breeding cattle making better than expected prices.

Elders Jim Hutchinson said the yarding of 1910 head met solid demand.
“The PTIC cattle sold especially well, and were $100-$200 a head dearer than expected in places, while the weaner heifers really saw no change on recent rates,” he said.
Jim and Glenys Osborne, Strathglen Station, Strath Creek, offered a large line of cow and calf lots and PTIC cows, achieving the best price of the day at $1240.
This was for 11 three-year-old Angus cows with 11 October-November 2013-drop Pert Angus-blood calves-at-foot.
They were by purchased Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts Melbourne, who also purchased a second pen of 10 by 10 of the same type from Strathglen at $1140.

They reached a top of $940 for a pen of 11 cows, 2010-drop, purchased by Peter Brewer, Landmark Melbourne.
Fingal Pastoral, Malahide, Fingal, Tasmania, sent their Angus cows and heifers over to the mainland 10 days before the sale, to let them settle down in the paddock before being sold.
Fingal’s 15 Angus second-calving cows, PTIC to Landfall and Kenny Creek bulls, achieved their top-price of $1140, while their line of 96 of the same type av $1030.
Regular vendor Pulitano Pastoral, Merrijig Park, Mansfield, made the top-price in the weaner heifer job, after selling steers to a market-topping price at Yea the week before.
