STRONGER opening season milk prices, burgeoning demand from China and growing farmer confidence about the industry’s future are the backdrop to the Australian Dairy Farm Investment Forum scheduled for September.
Organiser John McKillop said the forum would let all parties interested in the Australian dairy industry to gain a deeper understanding of the operating environment, outlook and innovations shaping its future.
“It will be an opportunity to share information, improve knowledge and explore the range of capital raising options available, as Australian dairy farmers need to see the breadth of investment models that can bring capital into their businesses to make them more profitable,” Mr McKillop said.
During the past 12 months, Dairy Australia and industry participants have received an increasing number of enquiries seeking information regarding potential investment in Australian dairy.
“We have different production types, diverse geographical regions and a complex regulatory and operating environment – so it’s time to come together and properly discuss these things more directly with the people who want to inject capital into the sector,” Mr McKillop said.
“Australian dairy production is already a great source of focus for local and many overseas customers, suppliers and investors.
“At the same time many of the farms producing the milk are keen to ramp up production and get dollars behind the business to achieve greater volumes and become more profitable.”
In response to the growing level of interest, Dairy Australia decided to host the inaugural Dairy Farm Investment Forum at ZINC in Federation Square, Melbourne on Monday, September 15.
The Federal Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Robb will open the event.
Dairy Australia Manager of Strategic Initiatives Paula Fitzgerald said people were reading about the Asian dairy boom and healthy growth we are seeing in our exports to China.
“The Forum will bring people together across the industry, whether they come from the boardroom perspective or straight from the paddock and really flesh out what the dairy investment landscape is for a growth and profitable future,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
