The Australian Alpaca industry is holding its premier National Show & Sale in Bendigo this week gathering the country's most elite alpacas for the year's most important judging and sale.
The foremost annual trade event comes at a time of great momentum in the alpaca industry with the Federal Government
announcing new protocols for alpaca export to Korea and continuing its talks with other emerging markets.
Earlier this year, trade opened with Turkey which is a textile powerhouse also seeking high quality Australian genetics to build its national herd.
There is great anticipation around the event as Australia's top breeders bring more than 600 champion alpacas into Bendigo from Perth and Rockhampton and everywhere in between.
Last year, the top priced stud male offered at the prestigious National Auction sold for $120,000.
This year, the auction focus is on 12 elite breeding females, one with her young male cria (offspring) at-foot, selected for the distinction of national sale.
The Australian Alpaca National Show & Sale will have elite alpaca judging, the National Alpaca Auction, Interactive Australian Alpaca Showcase during September 18 to 21.
The event will be held at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds, Bendigo.
The event is open to the public and entry is free.
