Work on the the construction phase of the $12 million Burnie Port Optimisation Project has finished.
The Australian and Tasmanian governments contributed a total of $6m to the project, while a further $6m invested by the Toll Group, TasPorts and TasRail. TasRail chief executive Damien White said Burnie now had a modern, efficient, safe and expanded rail terminal, with a new hardstand and freight storage facilities.
TasRail currently carried 68 per cent of contestable freight on the Burnie to Brighton corridor.
