THE forecast of a general rain along northern border regions halved advertised numbers offered at the Independent Agents’ monthly store cattle sale at the NVLX Barnawartha saleyards yesterday.
Offering a modest penning of 1100 head, local restockers and agent orders kept steers at recent strong rates, while an associated interest by second-tier feeders underpinned the heifer demand.
A pen of Angus yearlings weighed at 468 kilograms topped the steer market at $1090 a head.
Most other offered in the steer sale were spring-drop and these made $700 to $970 a head to sell in the mid-250c/kg price bracket for black cattle and the 260c/kg range for a limited display of Hereford weaners.
Heifers met a varied demand between 193-238c/kg lwt.
A pen of 430kg Angus heifers made the best money of $935, while weaners made $510-$795.
