Shepparton hosted its first autumn cattle sale in close to a decade on Friday where weaner calves passed $2300 a head.
Agents yarded about 1450 cattle at the once-off sale, which featured a large run of cows and calves and beef weaners as well as mixed-sex F1 and Friesian cattle.
Mulcahy Nelson Livestock agent Michael Mulcahy said the mixed yarding offered something for everyone.
"We haven't had an autumn sale for a long time, but the combined agents decided over a discussion that we all had a few cows and calves around so we thought we might have a sale," he said.
"This might've been the first autumn sale in at least eight or nine years at least."

Elders Shepparton livestock manager Andrew Kyle said the solid sale was the first store cattle market at Shepparton in six months.
"We have two or three sales every year and this was just on the back of a few people with some weaners that we decided to go ahead and sell," he said.
"We had no big commission buyers, but Shepp traditionally is a centre where there is something for everyone."
Mr Kyle said the sale included about 120 cow and calf units which sold on average from $2600-$3200.
"As the cattle got lighter they got dearer but there wasn't much cattle over 700-750c/kg," he said.
