The Leongatha store sale again drew a massive yarding last week, which saw heavy cattle sell up to $150 dearer than the previous fortnight.
Agents yarded about 4600 head at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
Elders livestock manager Michael Foote said it was an outstanding yarding, with heavy cattle selling exceptionally well.
"There was just lane after lane of heavy grown steers," he said.
"The heavier end of the job was probably $100 to $150 dearer for those 470 to 600kg steers and upwards.
"The rest of the job firm, probably could have even been a whisker better again."
The high prices were drawing cattle out to be sold earlier, he said.
"There's been a lot of cattle being sold, especially the last few sales, that would normally have been kept through to October, November," he said.
"People are taking the $2600, $2700 now.
"They might be worth $3000 later on, but they might not be either."
