South Gippslanders and local graziers took home a bulk of the cattle at Bairnsdale on Friday during a sale where 750 cattle were sold.
Agents said the eastern Victoria floods had little effect in terms of price and demand at the fortnightly store sale where feedlot competition dipped due to a lower volume yarding.
However, widespread flooding across parts of central and West Gippsland meant it was challenging for some buyers to get to the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange, agents said.
Nutrien Bairnsdale livestock manager Brad Obst said competition for all types of cattle was strong, with South Gippsland buyers and local restockers underpinning the sale.
"We had very limited feedlot competition and the market was mainly driven by a few locals and clients from South Gippsland," Mr Obst said.

Glenshiel Pastoral Pty Ltd, Butchers Ridge, sold 30 Charolais heifers, including 15, 441kg, for $1890 or 428c/kg.
Sharp Fullgrabe director Graeme Fullgrabe said vendors were fortunate most of the regular buyers were able to visit the sale complex, despite the flooding.
"We started off with steers out of the Monaro in NSW and they weighed 528kg and made $2200 or 416c/kg,' Mr Fullgrabe said.
"A local fella that passed away recently, Peter Burer from Mount Taylor, had some black steers in the sale which weighed 590kg and made $2440.
"The seconds of his made $2000 or 476c/kg and weighed 420kg."
Mr Fullgrabe said he thought competition from feeds for steers and heifers was reasonably strong.
"I had a few feedlot orders and was able to fill them on behalf of clients," Mr Fullgrabe said.

"We've had good rain so we're guaranteed a spring now so locals are pretty confident."
