Queensland's supreme Merino exhibit will be on show at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show when Mount Ascot Merino stud heads to Victoria.
The Brumpton family claimed fame at the Queensland State Sheep Show earlier this year when Mount Ascot Pat won the supreme exhibit for best ram.
The Mitchell, Qld, stud runs a few thousand ewes and sells about 600 stud rams into Queensland and NSW annually.
Stud principal Nigel Brumpton said it was the first year in a decade seasonal conditions were looking promising.
"We've had a good year this year because of the rain which has made a big difference," Mr Brumpton said.
He and wife Rosemary run the polled and horned studs and aim to breed rams that are suitable for a challenging climate.
"We're really about good constitutional rams for western Queensland," he said.
"It's very hard up here so we need a good, white, bright wool to handle the summer rainfall because the humidity and adverse temperatures is a huge issue."
Mr Brumpton said he used the ASWS to benchmark his stud animals compared to other high-performing sheep from other parts of the country.
"It's the biggest sheep show in Australia and we really enjoy the opportunity to see what other breeders from other states are up to," he said.
"It's also good to see how our sheep compare to others."
