LILLIPUT stud Tysubi has sold the top-priced bull at this year's 19th Southern Charolais Breeders Group auction, Yea, with the $8500 purchase going to Bonegilla.
Tysubi stud principal Ty Stanton, Lilliput, said the top-selling bull had better genetics than previous years, due to his use of Rangan and Palgrove bloodlines.
The stud also sold Lot 1, Tysubi Venture Quantum (AI) (P) to Peninsula Charolais, Balnarring, for $6000.
"I am going to flush the mothers of both the lots, so I can get some calves out of them," Mr Stanton said.
"The bulls are the best prepared as they have been - they are the most even line of bulls I have ever had at a sale."
Lot 2, Tsyubi Goldrush Quake (AI) (P) was by Ascot Goldrush J37E (JAJ J37E) (P/S) out of Palgrove Panache M1452E (PK M1452E) (P).
He was in the top 5 per cent for eye muscle area, domestic and dollar index.
Goldrush Quake was in the top 10pc for low birth weight, milk and intramuscular fat.
He had a birth weight of - 1.9 kilograms, a 200-day weight of +14kg, a 400-day weight of +27kg and a 600-day weight of +36kg.
He had figures of six millimetres for P8, a rib measurement of 6mm and EMA of 140 square centimetres.
His intramuscular fat was measured at 3.8pc, while his retail beef yield was +0.3pc.
Buyer Andy Whitsed, Bonegilla, said he was running 200 breeders using a Charolais bull and selling weaners through Barnawartha and Wodonga.
"He was a well finished bull and worth the opportunity," Mr Whitsed said.
"I have been using Charolais bulls now for five or six years but I had a bit of an incident with the fires, where I lost four bulls, so I had to buy a new line.
"The Charolais breed is a well structured animal; this bull looks good and presents well."
Mr Whitsed said Goldrush Quake would go over Angus/Charolais cross heifers and he expected to calve down 40 this year.
He also bought another three bulls.
Key sale results were 16 of 23 bulls sold, averaging $5156, two cows with calves-at-foot, both for $7000, and four heifers, which sold to $6000, av $3625.
Stud stock went to Bonegilla, Balnarring, Lauriston, Springhurst, South Morang and Glenburn
