Cows and calves exceeded expectations at the annual Ballarat Stock & Station Agents Association joined female sale, topping at $4400.
Heifers topped at $3750, with the first run of stock going to Hamilton, Kyneton and Bendigo
Jamie McConachy, Charles Stewart Ballarat, said it was an "outstandingly high quality yarding."
Agents yarded about 1200 head of cattle.
"These weren't big calves, they were late 2020 drop, with no rejoining, so you can't call them big three-for-ones, and they made $4400," Mr McConachy said.
"Weight for age, that would have to be some type of national record.
"It just keeps rocking along, this job; it's been 12 months to the day that this industry got a huge kickstart."

"The best PTIC heifers made $3750, twice, that's probably $200-300 a head, we were suggesting pre-sale," Mr McConachie said.
"It cruised through $3500 and beyond."
The top end of the sale consistently fell between $3500 and $3750 a head.
"The second draft, still outstanding quality, fetched between $3000 and $3500."
Mr McConachy said the rising two-year old heifers consistnetly sold up to $3000.
"The second drafts sold from $2000 to $2500"
Second and third calvers topped at $3600, a result that "was amazing.
"We consistently saw $3000 to $35000 in that bracket," he said.
Xavier Shanahan, Nutrien Ag Solutions, said most of the push was on the top end of the cattle.
"It was a real good sale, the mid-tier made what we hoped," Mr Shanahan said.
"It was largely local, there a little bit of Upper Murray, a little bit of Bendigo, some Yea, but otherwise, pretty much local and south of here."
He said the quality was "brilliant."
"It was probably the best yarding of heifers we have seen here.
"Everyone's genetics keep getting better and, on top of it, cattle had bloom and growth, which adds up to a better yarding."
He said the area had not been hit with low numbers of breeding stock, so producers had not had to cull.
"There was a little bit of push from areas that have had tight season, so some did come into the market to restock."
Xavier Bourke, TB White and Sons, also described the sale as "outstanding.
"Cattle sold up to expectation, it was an exceptionally good sale, but the cattle backed it up," Mr Bourke said.
"The cattle were some of the best you would see, anywhere in the state."
He said the season had been fantastic and prices kept rising.
"People can pay $3000 plus for replacements," he said.
