Colac female sale vendors went home more than pleased with their results as 931 heifer weaners sold to $1710 a head and averaged $1518.
The penning had an average weight of 312 kilograms and made a 486 cents a kilogram average.
That was compared with the steer weaner sale the previous Thursday when 1916 weighed an average 330kg and sold for an average of $1693 or 513c/kg.
HF Richardson auctioneer Matt Sculley said the lighter heifers sold significantly better than was expected prior to the sale.
Mr Sculley said several of the leading pens were purchased to be returned to the paddock as breeders.
The best of the heifers to join made $1600 to $1710.
"The lighter they got the better they sold," he said.
"We did have a bit of activity bidding and buying on StockLive."
StockLive reported that 104 head was purchased online for a Barraba, NSW, account, while 100 people logged in and there was online bidding on 17 per cent of the yarding.
Charles Stewart Dove director Shelby Howard said the market kicked as the weights came back.
"We had Charolais heifers that made 589c/kg today," he said.
"The Euro heifers were in strong demand and well sought after."
Top-priced heifers was a pen of six account N & J Reimers, that weighed 393kg and sold for $1710.
The same vendor also sold 12 at 327kg that made $1580.
P Murrihy sold 22 heifers with the top pen of 10 at 382kg selling for $1700.
A second pen of 12 at 340kg sold for $1600.
T Kemp sold seven weighing 379kg for $1680, while D Borsos sold 21 weighing 330kg for $1590.
Shone & Sheedy sold 23 at 327kg for $1600 and a second pen of 24 at 290kg that made $1330.
Mark and Leah Jacob, Dreeite, sold a draft of heifers that included a pen of 16 weighing 322kg that made $1590 and a second pen of 14, unweighed, that made $1510.
JH Smith & Sons, Beeac, had a large draft of Angus heifer weaners with the tops, a pen of 12, making $1620 for a pen weighing 365kg while a second pen of 18 weighing 326kg sold for $1590.
R & J Keys sold a pen of 14 at 314kg that made $1560, while D & J Kent sold a pen of eight that weighed 300kg for $1500.
L & MS Ham had two pens with the lighter calves at 319kg making $1580 for eight and a pen of eight at 334kg also made $1580.
Of the Herefords in the yarding Clactac had a draft including 22 at 340kg that made $1650, and a second pen of 13 at 302kg that made $1480.
Byron Kershaw, Buckley, had a pen of 27 Charolais/Angus-cross heifers, unweighed, that sold for $1680.
Charolais/Angus-cross heifers account TA & DE Richardson included a pen of eight at 359kg that made $1680, 17 at 322kg for $1590 and 23 at 290kg at $1490.
Due to the property being sold, SN McConachy consigned third-calvers with August/September-drop calves at foot that sold for $3950.
The draft sold in two lines both to the same purchaser.
