Australian Wool Innovation, has renewed its commitment to Victoria's highly successful Community Wild Dog Control Coordinators project for a further three years.
Wild Dog Coordinators Brian Dowley, Michael Freeman and Lucy-Anne Cobby will continue to support the 20 Community Wild Dog Control groups throughout the State's North-East and Gippsland.
The groups had involved up to 180 producers and protected about 180,000 hectares of public and private lands during the eight years of the project.
The CWDCC partnership project between AWI and DELWP began in 2012, in response to the finding that wild dog predation was the single biggest controllable threat to the wool industry.
Stages 1 and 2 of the CWDCC project saw the development of a framework that encouraged and enables private and public landholders to work together to control the impacts of wild dogs.
Operated in partnership with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, the project had a community-based approach, that promotes communication, coordination and adoption of best practice control methods.
It had been so successful the model had now been extended to include feral pigs in areas where they were an issue.
