Strong demand drove prices for Poll Dorset rams to a top of $2700 at the Englewood Park, Inverleigh, 43rd annual production sale.
Victoria's ongoing Covid restrictions couldn't deter buyers and the exceptional quality of the rams and favorable seasonal conditions saw increased demand for the premium Poll Dorset and White Suffolk rams.
The factors resulted in one of the biggest attended sales in recent years with more than 47 buyers registered, the bidding was lively from the outset.
Stud principal Geoff Oliver said 41 of the 47 registered buyers bought rams.
He said it was unusual, but many buyers were looking for up to three rams.
He said the sale was held under the Covid protocols.
The first 25 rams on offer were all sold for more than $2000.
The top priced Poll Dorset ram (430-19), a spring drop was sold for $2700 to regular buyer, Cannoah Pastoral, Inverleigh. The ram was a late August drop ram with an outstanding eye muscle area of 36.59 square centimetres and at a weight of 112.5 kilograms.
Stud breeders, Luke and Jodie Mullane, Ballan, purchased the second top ram at $2500. The ram (88/19) had a fat depth of eight millimetres, and an EMA of 38.89sqcm and weighed 116kg.
Volume buyer of the Poll Dorsets was Judy Mitchell, Lismore, purchasing 12 rams.
The 21 White Suffolks offered were all sold, with a top of $1500 being paid by the Dennis family - taking home four rams at that price.
Mr Oliver was pleased with the outcome of the sale and the support shown by his long-term clients.
"This years rams were the best we have offered, with exceptional condition, so we are pleased with the result," he said.
"We were also pleased to see some fresh faces and thankful to the ongoing support shown from our regular clients."
