Thunderstorm activity across parts of Victoria over Friday and Saturday could see 10 to 30 millimetres, and possibly up to 500mm, of rain fall on already saturated catchments.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster, Tom Delamotte, said unstable weather conditions were forecast for Friday and Saturday with thunderstorms likely to develop in the north and east of the state
Those storms could see heavy rain in the north east in particular.
On Saturday a low pressure system should develop over western Victoria and move across the state with fairly widespread rain.
He said there were likely to be thunderstorms across central and eastern parts with rainfall totals of 10 to 30 millimetres, and as high as 30 to 50mm on the north east ranges through Saturday.
Mr Delamotte said there was a minor flood for the Kiewa River and a flood watch was likely to be declared for the north east catchment on Saturday.
If the rain falls as expected there would be renewed riverine flooding in that area.
Today a cold front was approaching from the west and should move through Victoria in the late afternoon and early evening.
He said showers and thunderstorms were expected to develop over central and eastern Victoria with some thunderstorms could become severe with gusty winds.
