'Dearest sale on record' - was how the Euroa August special sale was described.
Agents yarded around 1200 cattle that included quality annual drafts of weaned steers and heifers, 10-12 months of age.
Nutrien Livestock branch manager Russell Mawson, Euroa, said the demand was 'enormous', he said.
"A lot of people went away disappointed they were unable to buy cattle," he said.
"They still need them," he said.
Cattle went in every direction in big lines and small," he said.
Large buyers included 180 to Alex Scott & Co, Korumburra, and 75 to AJF O'Brien, Coonamble, NSW, and 101 to Bowyer and Livermore, Bathurst, NSW.
Heifers were particularly in demand with prices rising 60 to 80 cents a kilogram with most selling from 400c to 450c/kg.
Heifers were making the same money as many of the steers.
Steers were 20-30c/kg higher than a month ago, he said.
While there was the usual group of feedlotters operating, they didn't pick up "the big licks".
Rodwells agent James Cleeland said it was a quality yarding of breeder's cattle that had been held for the sale.
He said prices were a just reward for the clients who had held their spring-drop cattle through winter.
Tops of the sale was a pen of 14 Angus steers that weighed 510kg and sold for $1880 or 368c/kg.
An annual draft from Carrington Property Co, Euroa, included a pen of Angus steers, 11 months, Witherswood blood, yard weaned, 312kg, that sold for $1405 or 450c/kg. A second pen weighing 286kg, sold for $1355 or 473c/kg.
B & E Lundstrom, Merton, consigned a draft of Angus steers, 11 months, TeMania blood. The tops sold to $1570 or 446c/kg on weights of 352kg.
A second pen that weighed 297kg sold fr $1385 or 466c/kg.
A mixed sex draft of cattle from Plantus Seedlings, Benalla, comprised steers, 10-12 months, Hazeldene blood, yard weaned. The steers weighed 410kg and sold for $1660 or 404c/kg. The heifer portion sold in two lines with the tops weighing 381kg making $1520 or 398c/kg, and a second pen weighing 298kg that made $1310 or 439c/kg.
Gooram Estate, Gooram, forwarded 88 mixed sex Angus weaners, 10-11 months, Connamara blood. The tops of 16 weighing 335kg sold for $1490 or 444c/kg. A second line of 20 weighing 291kg made $1355 or 465c/kg. Of the heifers, 24 weighing 281kg sold for $1270 or 451c/kg and a pen of 22, 251kg, made $1090 or 434c/kg. They also sold four Charolais steers, 475kg for $1500 or 315c/kg.
Yallum Vale sold 16 Angus steers, 12 months, that weighed 437kg and made $1750 or 400c/kg, while 18, weighing 385kg, sold for $1610 or 418c/kg.
A line of steers sold account Villa sold in two lines with the top weighing 286kg and selling for $1340 or 468c/kg. A second pen weighing 260kg sold for $1245 or 478c/kg.
The heifer portion account the same vendor also sold in two pen with the tops weighing 276kg making $1160 or 420c/kg. The second draft weighed 245kg and sold for $1080 or 440c/kg.
A & P Beard sold 14 Angus steers that weighed 270kg and sold for 466c/kg.
Four Angus steers sold account Innisfail, Ruffy, weighed 435kg and sold for $1710 or 393c/kg
H Jennings sold six steers, 338kg for $1465 or 433c/kg. The heifer portion of the draft comprised eight weighed 297kg, and sold for $1260 or 424c/kg.
Kambara Citrus sold 14 steers, 297kg, for $1380 or 464c/kg, and 19 heifers, 271kg, for $1170 or 431c/kg.
Cairnhill Beef forwarded a line of Hereford and black baldy cows, PTIC to start calving September with seven black baldies making $2200, and 23 Herefords made $1800.
I & P Ralston consigned a pen of 25 Hereford heifers that weighed 338kg and sold for $1315 or 389c/kg.
Seven Angus heifers account Proom Pty Ltd, weighed 267kg and made $1150 or 430c/kg.
Monea Park, Locksley, sold 10 heifers, 8-9 months, Glenmodest blood, that weighed 391kg for $1500 or 383c/kg and another pen of 10, 365kg, for $1250or 342c/kg.
