A yarding of around 450 cattle at Echuca had the attention of a wide field of buyers that kept values firm for most classes.
Maddison Livestock's Neil Maddison said the sale was conducted through the centre's dairy selling ring to ensure social distancing.
He said the method did help accommodate more buyers with better viewing of every buyer and every lot.
Numbers of cattle were well down on the previous month.
Local producers were carrying plenty of feed and some decided to hold cattle back, he said.
Elders auctioneer Matt O'Connor said there was a lot of strength from the local Goulburn Valley.
He said the season was looking okay close to the river, but north of the river the barley grass was "well and truly done".
He said the season was on "knife's edge" but falls of 20 to 50 millimetres of rain forecast for the weekend.
"If we get that type of rain it will benefit early crops going to head to fill and boost the later crops," he said.
Feed was the key in terms of seeing out coronavirus issues - "if there's feed available we get out of gaol," he said.
A pen of 15 Angus/Friesian-cross heifers account T Colvin, two-years-old, joined to Shorthorn and Murray Grey bulls, sold for $1600.
A Mitchell sold a pen of 20 Angus steer and bull calves, 250-260kg, that made 432c/kg.
Laurina Pastoral, Charlton, sold eight cows with Limousin calves at foot, four months, sold for $2625.
Three Speckle Park heifers with Speckle Park calves at foot sold for $2500.
A line of 15 Angus heifers with calves six-seven months old at foot sold for $2440.
A pen of six Santa Gertrudis steers, eight to 10 months old, sold account Julbre Pty Ltd, Charlton, weighing 310-320kg, sold for $1320.
A second line weighing 260-270kg, sold for $1210 for a pen of eight.
Murray Eden Pty Ltd sold a pen of Brangus-cross steers, 250-260kg that made $930 with the heifer portion making $880.
Two to four-month-old Friesian/Murray Grey and Red Poll-cross steers sold for $600
Straight Friesian steers, 120 to 130kg sold for $490.
