Small offering at Sale as vendors hold cattle over to spring

Agents yarded about 400 cattle in total with the tops of the steers ranging between 420-440 cents a kilogram, agents said.

West and East Gippsland agents were active on the steers during the monthly combined agents store sale while Garrison Cattle Feeders purchased suitable pens of heifers.

Nutrien Greenwood auctioneer Ben Greenwood said many producers were now opting to hold their cattle back until the September spring sales.

"The cattle presented in forward store condition with most showing signs of freshness and bloom," Mr Greenwood said.

"A few cattle showed signs of the colder weather - we've had a few frosts - but most of our vendors are taking advantage of the grass on offer at the moment."

LA Morgan sold 13 Angus steers, 350kg, for $1410 or 402c/kg.

M and A Van Berkel sold 12 Angus and Black Baldy steers, 342kg, for $1500 or 438c/kg.

D and A Andrew sold 12 Hereford steers, 335kg, for $1410 or 420c/kg.

DA and WM Hawkes sold five Angus steers, 269kg, for $1010 or 375c/kg. They also sold four Angus steers, 191kg, for $890 or 465c/kg.

P and S Ashdown sold three Angus steers, 333kg, for $1180 or 354c/kg. They also sold 11 Angus steers, 235kg, for $1000 or 425c/kg.

In the heifers, PT and SM Cantwell sold six Angus heifers, 328kg, for $1100 or 335c/kg. They also sold two heifers, 240kg, for $800 or 333c/kg.

P and S Ashdown sold seven Angus heifers, 268kg for $870 or 324c/kg.

Creekside sold three Angus heifers, 262kg, for $850 or 324c/kg.

Airly Pty Ltd sold one Friesian cow with a calf at foot for $1470.
