A Gippsland dairy farmer has auctioned a bullock ahead of a quest to raise money for sick children.
Carlene Farmer, Glengarry, sold the bullock at Leongatha's fat market last week, fetching $2544.
The 745 kilogram beast was bought by JBS for 341 cents a kilogram, an estimated 20 cents a kilogram dearer on the average bullock price.
The funds will go towards Ms Farmer's goal to raise a minimum $3000 to compete in Variety's River to Rock drive in May.
The drive raises money for sick children.
"My great-niece has epilepsy and so does her mother so I really wanted to support and give back to our sick children ... they're out future," Ms Farmer said.
"People have experienced enough with the fires and drought so I didn't want to go down the raffle path or ask people for money but selling one of my bullocks for the cause will go a long way."
Ms Farmer will drive a Toyota Hilux from Mildura to Uluru as part of Variety's fundraiser, raising money for ill children along the way.
"People have been very generous and we've received a few donations already so we've been very humbled by the support we've received," Ms Farmer said.
Alex Scott & Staff sold the Friesian Hereford bullock at Leongatha while CB Livestock organised the freight free of charge.
