Some of the biggest names in Australian agriculture took part in Stock & Land's Making Our Voices Herd panel in Melbourne today.
Facilitated by ACCC deputy chair Mick Keogh the panel fielded questions about agricultural advocacy and the challenges the sector faces.
Panel members represented a wide range of agricultural industries, from the grass roots through to veteran policy makers and included:
- NFF president Fiona Simson
- Australian Farm Institute chair and immediate past Australian Pork Ltd chief executive Andrew Spencer
- Australian Live Export Council chair and former agriculture minister Simon Crean
- Australian Dairy Farmers chief executive and former Cattle Council of Australia chief executive David Inall
- Dairy farmer and 2019 Nuffield scholar Daniel Meade, who studied how some of the world's most successful agricultural advocacy bodies engage with members.
Stock & Land editor Joely Mitchell thanked the panelists for their input.
"It was great to have industry leaders from different commodity groups come together to discuss the future of agriculture's advocacy, and how we can come together as an industry with one unified voice," she said.
More than 75 people attended the event at Media House in Melbourne.
"It was also good to have input from readers and viewers both present and those who chose to watch the a stream of the discussion online," Ms Mitchell said.
