*55 of 60 rams sold to $4250, av $1734
A MIX of returning buyers and a couple of new clients helped Beverley Merino stud achieve an average of $1734 on the sale of 55 rams.
The Barty family of Mac and John Barty, Redesdale, achieved a clearance of 91 per cent for 60 rams offered and a top price of $4250.
John Barty said he was happy with the results particularly given the difficult season in many parts of the country.
He said there were a couple of new buyers as well as some returning.
Buyers of the top-priced ram were J.M Star, Bungil in north-east Victoria.
The 15-month old, 84-kilogram ram was March-shorn and by Conrayn Ultra.
It measured 15.1 micron with figures of 2.3 standard deviation, 15.2 co-efficient of variation and a comfort factor of 100 per cent.
Next best was $3750 achieved for Lot 8, a ram by Alfoxton Yalgoo, bought by regular clients DJ & RG Stables, Redesdale.
The ram held figures of 16.3 micron, 2.4 SD, 14.7 CV and a CF of 99.9pc.
The same purchaser bought Lot 34, by the same sire, for $2000.
Strong local support came from regular Beverley clients, Coliban Estate, Redesdale.
The buyer took five rams, paying to a top of $3500.
The top lot was the third ram offered and was by Alfoxton Diplomat.
It had figures of 16.6 micron, 2.5 SD, 15.1 CV and 99.9pc CF.
Tasmanian buyers were also prominent with three clients of Roberts securing 18 rams between them.
Lower Marshes Pastoral, Jericho, Tasmania, bought eight rams to a top of $3500.
The top lot was a 15.3-micron ram by Alfoxton Diplomat, with an SD of 2.2, CV of 14.4 and CF of 100pc.
Randall Whelan, Frankston, Ross, Tas, took home six rams, paying to a top of $1750 on two occasions.
The third of the Tasmanian contingent was Douglas Park Pastoral, Campbell Town, Tas, that paid to $2250 for four rams.
There was good interest in rams from the stud's No 2 flock which was based on ewes bought from the One Oak No 2 stud dispersal sale.
Mr Barty said the No 2 stud was "going from strength to strength".
"We are aiming to breed big cutting sheep for the higher rainfall areas," he said.
There were a number of rams in the No 2 offering by Eilen Donnan Harvey, a ram that Beverley has a semen share in.
CD Hepburn, Strangways, bought two rams by Harvey including Lot 51 for $2250 and Lot 53 for $2200.
AM & LJ Pilgrim, Bayindeen, bought four rams to a top of $2500, while RA & JC Cordy, Castlemaine, secured two rams to $2750.
Late in the sale, Kerang-based Wingfield Farms, operated on the rams in the No 2 flock.
They bought five rams to a top of $1800 (twice).
