Wesley College offers a contemporary model of boarding, Learning in Residence for Senior School students (Years 10 to 12).
Students from Melbourne, rural Australia and overseas all live in the Learning in Residence houses.
Ella Rees, a Year 11 boarder from Hamilton, says boarding has changed her experience of high school.
"As a boarder, you learn how to be independent," she said.
"You also learn how to get along with others as you're living with students and mentors from all different cultures and backgrounds."
Boarding life in Learning in Residence includes a schedule of educational programs complemented by co-curricular activities, all fully integrated with the senior school at the Glen Waverley campus, in Melbourne's south-east.
Wesley's Learning in Residence head Sean Cox said the approach was different to traditional boarding.
"In the Learning in Residence program, students choose their routine based on their interests and how they study best," he said.
"There is also a real focus on the learning opportunities that come with living in a residential environment.
"Boarders access their Wesley teachers in after-school tutoring sessions, the gym is staffed by personal trainers and live-in mentors provide pastoral care.
"The Learning in Residence program recognises learning is a continuous process that doesn't stop with the end of the school day at 3.30pm.
"There is a strong focus on the development of each individual student, with academic, employment, extension and health and wellbeing programs to support students' personal growth."
A keen netball player, Ella enjoys using the gym and personal training facilities after school, and getting to know the other people in her house.
"You make great friends and get to fully involve yourself with all the activities that your school offers as well as learning many things about yourself along the way," she said.
The Learning in Residence centre is a collection of eight modern houses arranged around a landscaped central garden courtyard.
Each house has eight twin-share student bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a live-in mentor.
The communal dining room, which comfortably seats up to 240 people, is open to day and boarding students.
Enrolments are now open.
Rural and regional students in Years 10 or 11 in 2020 are encouraged to apply for the Lewis Posner Boarding Scholarship via wesleycollege.edu.au/scholarships.
