SOUTH SUFFOLK:
Supreme: Willow Drive South Suffolk Stud, Grassmere.
Champion ram: Willow Drive
Champion ewe: Willow Drive
South Suffolk judge Peter Button has plumped for a ewe over the champion ram when awarding the Royal Melbourne Show supreme ribbon - saying she was a credit to the breed.
Barry Shalder's Willow Drive South Suffolk stud put up the winning ram and ewe, which Mr Button said were both very good sheep.
But he said he chose the ewe, as she was structurally very correct, had a "lovely" shoulder and neck, a beautiful back end, length and depth onto the twist.
"To present herself, as she does, is a credit," Mr Button said.
Mr Button said he picked the ram for its carcase traits, although he was " a tad finer " in the shoulder than the ewe.
"The difference is the beautiful front end on that ewe, how she carries herself," he said.
"She is magnificent for the breed."
The ram weighed 118.5kilograms, had a 10 millimetre fat depth, a 55mm muscle depth, 102mm muscle width and 43.2 square centimetre muscle area.
