*4 of 10 Suffolk rams sold to $5000, av $2750
INTERSTATE competition, combined with strong support from within Victoria, saw the Elite White Suffolk and Suffolk sale achieve an average of $4410.
Buyers came from WA, Tasmania, NSW and SA and around Victoria.
It was WA-based, MJ & SK Ledwith, Kolinda stud, Kulin, who set the sale top of $13,000 for a July 2018-drop ram from Shane and Amber Baker's Booloola White Suffolk stud at Baringhup.
The ram weighed 151 kilograms and had figures of 0.44kg birth weight, 11.5kg weaning weight and a post weaning eye muscle depth of 1.4 on a terminal carcase production index of 144.
Mr Baker said the ram had been used at the stud as a lamb and its progeny "look pretty good".
He said the Booloola sire of the top ram was sold for $20,000 in 2018.
He said this year's buyer had purchased a Booloola ram about five years ago that had bred well for them and had expressed interest if a similar ram was coming up for sale.
The second top price was $7000, paid on two occasions.
The first was an entry from Ian and Donna Gilmore and sons Brayden and Lachlan, Baringa stud, Oberon, NSW.
The ram was bought by Rob Butters, Tillside stud, Sutherland.
Mr Butters said the ram had good shape and muscle and "wasn't extreme".
The 120kg ram was sired by the reserve junior champion ram at the same show in 2017 and had figures of 11 millimetres fat and 52mm eye muscle depth.
Ramsey Park White Suffolk stud of Peter Button, Minlaton, SA, also sold a ram for $7000.
The June 2018-drop ram with a TCP of 144.6 and pemd of 2.2, sold to Randyn and Helena Fischer, Clive White Suffolk stud, Osborne, NSW.
Two rams sold for $6000; the first was Lot 27 from Tim Jorgensen, Mertex stud, Antwerp.
The ram with a TCP of 141 went to the Banquet White Suffolk stud, Mortlake.
Also making $6000 was a ram from the Ashley Park stud, Bairnsdale.
The ram had figures of 2.3 pemd and 144.4 TCP.
The buyer was Luke Ellis, West Wail White Suffolk stud, Pimpinio.
Top price of the Suffolk offering was a ram from Jon Sutherland's Sayla Park stud, Kilmore.
The September 2018-drop ram weighed 112kg and had a TCP of 133.6.
The ram was bought by Hamish Branson, Banquet Suffolk stud, Mortlake.
Mr Branson said the ram had the length as well as good shape of shoulder and hindquarter.
Six White Suffolk ewes were offered selling to a top of $1300 and averaging $916.
The top price was for a ewe from the Ramsey Park stud, Bairnsdale.
The lot was bought by Seriston Pastoral Co, Avenue Range, SA.
Lachie McRae, Somerset stud, Hamilton, bought four ewes to a top of $1000, with the top-priced lot also from Ramsey Park.
Two Suffolk ewes sold to a top of $700 by Jon Sutherland's Sayla Park, Kilmore.
The buyer was AC & PM McDonald Pty Ltd, Dadswells Bridge.
