Three New South Wales studs and two Victorian studs took out the major awards in the Poll Dorset ring at this year's Australian Sheep & Wool Show.
Breeders forwarded 190 entries into this year's Poll Dorset judging.
The prestigious supreme exhibit went to the Rowley family's Springwaters stud, Boorowa, NSW.
"I couldn't go past the ram. He's quite special and will have a bigger influence on a larger number of sheep," chief judge Wallace Binnie, Bungeet, said.
"This has been the pinnacle of my judging career. I am very humbled," Mr Wallace said.
"I was looking for sheep that had correct structure, good in the feet, good fleshy skin and outlook," he said.
He said a number of rams and ewes showed great commercial qualities and sound structure.
Mr Binnie said the breed needed showing to help maintain good structure and type in the breed.
"Performance recording is just one part of breeding," he said.
The champion and supreme champion ram also took out the Ian Bucknall trophy for a ram under 1.5 years.
The Frost family's Hillden stud, Crookwell, NSW, had a strong show being awarded most successful exhibitor.
Hillden showed the reserve senior champion ram that came from the pairs class as well as earlier showing the reserve junior champion ram.
Junior champion ram was shown by Peter and Gil Cain's Glenore stud, Carisbrook.
In the ewe championship it was an entry from Tim and Marianne Ferguson, Mallee Park, Hopetoun, that prevailed over a ewe from the Mitchell family's Rene Stud, Culcairn, NSW.
Dane Rowley said the stud had been showing "off and on" for 20 years, but this was it's second year back at Bendigo after a break.
"It's just such a big event with so many sheep people here to look at potential stud rams for purchase later on," he said.
Mr Rowley said the ram had been judged reserve champion ram at this year's Royal Easter Show in Sydney and senior champion ram at the NSW Dorset Championships in June at Cowra, NSW.
"We knew we had a good ram - he's always been a standout for us," he said.
The ram was sired by a an Abelene Park, Tamworth, NSW, sire the stud bought for $24,000 three years ago.
Mr Rowley said they already had lambs on the ground from the champion ram.
He said the ram would be set for the Australasian Championships in Bendigo.
Champion ewe exhibitor Tim Ferguson said they were "very happy" to have the ewe in the lineup.
He said the ewe had been reserve champion at Ballarat.
Most of the Mallee Park team were sired by a Kurralea ram they bought in 2017.
"I judged him as champion ram at the 2017 Adelaide Royal and bought him afterwards at an on-property sale," Mr Ferguson said.
"I thought he could provide some of his length, structure and meat quality."
Glenore stud principal Peter Cain said the junior champion ram was by a Hillden sire he bought two years ago.
"We were really happy with our results against the big studs," he said.
