CROWDS turned out in their droves for the 28th annual Toomba Horse Sale held at the Dalrymple Equestrian Arena at Charters Towers this weekend.
The sale capped off a weekend of action in Charters Towers for equine enthusiasts, and followed from the ever-popular Horse of the North campdraft, which started on Thursday and culminated with the main events on Saturday.
With 117 lots catalogued from 65 different vendors from across Queensland, buyers came from as far afield as Echuca in Victoria and the Northern Territory to place their bids.
Reigning supreme this year with a stellar top price of $31,000 was Dan Condon's ridden mare Halls Miss Rio, who returned to the family who originally bred her when she was purchased by Noel Daley, Emerald.
Mr Daley said his daughter Jaye Hall, Muttaburra, had bred the chestnut five-year-old mare, and he was pleased to get his hands back on the proven bloodlines.
