And there are three regional Victorian and southern NSW electorates in particular that have strong farmer voter presences - Farrer, Mallee and Corangamite.
So we decided to ask farmers in those electorates what mattered most to them in the lead up to the election, and what would be determining their vote.
Stock & Land journalists Andrew Miller, Alastair Dowie and Gregor Heard hit the road to speak to farmers across the state, in locations such as Winchelsea, Inverleigh, St Helens Plains, Jeparit, Deniliquin, NSW, and more.
This is what they had to say:
- Survey finds bush voters look beyond major parties
- Water dominates the campaign in the safe Liberal seat of Farrer
- Surf coast seat pushed to a knife's edge
