Perennial top lamb producer, Andy Maher, Dean near Ballarat, has done it again, when his extra heavy lambs sold for $300 a head this morning.
The price was a record for the Central Victorian Livestock Exchange at Miners Rest.
Selling agent TB White and Sons livestock manager Xavier Bourke said the Maher lambs were "massive".
He said the rain around the district had failed to stem the flow of lambs with producers looking to cash in on the current prices.
The MLAs National Livestock Reporting Service reported there was a similar yarding of lambs with 24,400 penned as well as 10,600 sheep.
The service reported the quality of lambs overall was average to good with an excellent penning of extra heavy lambs.
The usual buying group operated "with urgency".
Trade lambs were $5-10 dearer while restocker demand was good with lambs selling from $137 to $177 to be $5-$10 dearer according to the service report.
