Gippsland stud Mawarra Herefords has been the big winner at this year's annual Herefords Australia National sale, selling the top priced bull for $40,000.

The stud also had several sales of more than $10,000, but it was Mawarra Rhinestone N108 (PP), which blew away the gallery, in a spirited bidding war.

Knocked down to Yarram Park stud, Willaura, Rhinestone is an April 2017 drop Allendale Anzac E114 (PP) bull, out of Mawarra Miss Titania 054 (AI) (ET) (P).

Weighing 1018kilograms Rhinestone had measurements of a +5.8kg birthweight, +45kg 200-day weight, +76kg 400-day weight and +106 600-day weight.

He had Hereford Breedplan measurements of a +6.1 square centimetre muscle area, +1.1millimetre rib and +1.7mm rump, with an intramuscular fat of +1.1per cent.

Yarram Park's Jeremy Upton said Rhinestone was the stand out bull, at the sale.

"He is a beautifully balanced bull, a structurally correct bull and he had a very well balanced data set," Mr Upton said.

"We thought he was the best sire in the group today, which will fit our breeding program."

Rhinestone had capacity and good carcase attributes.

"He is a very good bull, laid back in the shoulders, a very sound, complete bull, coming from a great cow herd."

The bull would bring new genetics to Yarram Park.

"He is a homozygous poll, which is the poll influence we are seeking to build, he's just a complete bull."

Mawarra's Peter Sykes agreed Rhinestone was a complete bull, with depth and a good set of figures.

"He's from the Anzac E114 line that has bred extremely well for us," he said.

Auctioneer Lincoln McKinlay said Rhinestone was an outstanding bull

"Mawarra presented a wonderful draft there," Mr McKinlay said.

"The whole draft was outstanding really, red meat animals, with plenty of class and performance to them, as well."

He said the auctioneers knew the good bulls were going to sell well.

"The number of cows that have gone out of the eastern seaboard was why it was a little tough, earlier, and to the back end of the sale."
