*50 of 76 bulls sold to $14,000 (twice), av $6000
A LARGE gallery of buyers attended Mawarra Hereford stud's recent on-property sale at Longford.
The stud offered 76 bulls and sold 50 to a top price of $14,000, and an average price of $6000.
And it had been a tough few weeks for the stud, with the recent Rosedale fires coming within 200 metres of the farm.
It had also been a dry year for the stud.
"Fortunately, we have irrigation, which has helped us present a great catalogue of quality Hereford and Poll Hereford bulls this year," Mawarra stud co-principal Peter Sykes said.
Close to 70 buyers registered for the sale, with registrations noted from Tasmania, through to Queensland.
Successful purchasers came from Tasmania, and all districts of Gippsland, and the top price of $14,000 was achieved twice.
McKoy & Sons Pty Ltd, Ohio, Holbrook, NSW, purchased Lot 10, Mawarra Gentleman (AI) (H#) HRPN095, by Mawarra Calibre (AI) (ET) (H#).
Also going on the truck to Holbrook was Lot 11, Mawarra Global N065 (AI) (H), by popular Mawarra Daybreak (AI) (ET) (H).
The McKoy family paid the top price of the sale for these two horned bulls for their large holdings at Holbrook.
Some of the top producers, who sell calves in the annual calf sales, both in the high country and the Western District, were noted among the successful buyers.
Tarcoola Herefords, Casterton, purchased two bulls, Lot 4, Mawarra Air Marshall (H) for $12,000, and Lot 39, Mawarra Gangster (AI) (ET) (H), for $10,000.
Among the gallery were several producers from the high country, one of which was P&C Faithfull, who sold the top pen of Herefords at Omeo.
