*21 of 32 bulls sold to $7500, av $4167
AN EVEN line up of bulls, which were sought after by local producers, returning and new clients, sold at Ennerdale Hereford stud's 49th annual sale.
Lot 2, purchased by Georgie Luckock and Rob Lawrance, Banool Pastoral, located north of Cavendish, achieved the top price of $7500.
A total of 21 bulls were sold out of 32, with an average price of $4167 recorded.
Ms Luckock and Mr Lawrence have been long-time supporters of Ennerdale, with the stud's genetics some of the most dominant lines within their herd.
They said they appreciate the easy doing ability of the Ennerdale genetics, as well as their performance in tougher seasons.
At the sale they also purchased lots 10 and 12.
Ms Luckock said Lot 2 would be an asset to their herd, as he had a powerful and well balanced phenotype, aligning with Ennerdale's aim to produce well-structured, performing stock with good temperament in a commercially focussed environment.
Lot 2 recorded figures of a +4.1 eye muscle area, +67 kilograms 400-day weight, +940kg 600-day weight and +7.1kg birth weight.
Lots 10 and 12 had lower birth weight figures of +5.9kg and +5.4kg, which allowed them to be more suitable to be used over heifers within the Banool herd.
Ennerdale stud principal Kate Luckock said while the sale was indicative of the season's conditions, as people were naturally worried about the weather outlook, she was pleased to see return buyers purchase multiple bulls.
Ms Luckock said there were a few new clients in attendance too.
She said embryo transfer programs had been used to fast track genetic improvement within the herd.
Due to their spring and autumn calving, they were able to have bulls in the sale aged from 15-23 months.
Ms Luckock said this was an advantage for the buyers as the older and younger bulls were meeting the buyers' requirements.
She was pleased with how the bulls presented for sale, and said it was great to have the first sons of Allendale Washington offered for sale.
Allendale Washington was the top-priced bull at the 2016 Dubbo National Sale, and was also the sire of Lot 2 – the top-priced bull of the sale.
