One of the highlights of this year's Loddon Valley Stud Merino field day was the private sale of a nine month-old ram for $15,000.
The ram was sold account Terrick West, Prairie, and purchased by Anthony and Lisa Heard, Merrivale, Willaura, assisted by Landmark wool account manager John McGrath, Ararat.
Terrick West stud principal Ross McGauchie said TW 18.243 was an embryo transfer progeny out of a top show ewe.
The 80 kilogram sale ram was sired by a Terrick West-bred ram that they had sold at the Classing Classic sale at Murray Bridge three years ago but had retained semen from.
Mr McGauchie said the Heards were regular buyers who had wanted a ram they could use for their March mating and this ram fitted the bill.
"We thought very highly of the ram," he said.
Mr McGauchie said the flock had kept improving year after year.
Mr McGrath said the purchasers believed the ram would take their breeding program to the next step.
