AN EVEN line up of bulls at Barwidgee Angus' on-property sale were well sought after, particularly by local buyers.
Lot 1, purchased by Glenwood Pastoral Trust, and Lot 19, purchased by Boortkoi Pastoral, achieved the equal top price of $9000.
A total of 51 bulls were auctioned, with a clearance of 50 recorded and an average price of $5530.
Andrew and Rick Manifold, Boortkoi, Hexham, have been long-time supporters of Barwidgee, and run 600 Angus breeders at Hexham.
They run a commercial operation, with autumn calving, and have always appreciated the easy doing ability, reliability, growth attributes and correct structure of Barwidgee cattle.
The grassfed bulls at Barwidgee adapt well to their operation, due to similar management practices and minimal climate variation.
The overall correct constitution of Lot 19 made him an ideal addition to their herd, with plans to utilise him as a bull over heifers.
The bull recorded figures of +6.1 eye muscle area, +2.3 for intramuscular fat, and +5.2 kilograms birth weight, and +116kg for 600-day weight.
Another long-time supporter of Barwidgee was Neville and Florence Young, Nevflo, Caramut.
The Youngs run a sheep and beef operation, and have been purchasing cattle from Barwidgee for 20 years.
They purchased Lot 42 for $7000 and Lot 46 for $5500.
Greg Millard, Maxjem, Caramut, purchased lots 29 and 41 to be utilised within his mixed-breed herd.
Mr Millard runs a grassfed operation, managing 1100 breeding cattle which are mostly Angus, and has been a returning customer for many years at Barwidgee.
John Buhlmann, Millicent, South Australia, owns and operates Double Scotch Pastoral.
Mr Buhlmann runs 220 Angus breeders, and sells heifers annually to China and steers into feedlots as far as Queensland.
He said he appreciated the long-time performance data of Barwidgee cattle, and their adaptability to the climate on his property.
He purchased lots 23 and 57 for $6500 and $5000.
Barwidgee stud co-principal Wendy Kelly said she was happy with the sale's result, which saw cattle go to return and new clients, locally and interstate.
Ms Kelly said they had been selling performance-recorded bulls since the 1960s.
A proportion of the original data for BreedPlan was based on the data taken at Barwidgee and they were part of an National Beef Recording Scheme before BreedPlan started.
