A revamp and new date are the first steps in developing the 2019 relaunched Victorian Sheep Show into a sheep and wool "extravaganza".
The Ballarat Agricultural and Pastoral Society (BAPS) has announced a new format for its Sheep Show and Merino Ram Sale, now to be held at Ballarat Showgrounds.
BAPS Sheep Committee led by Chair, Jonathan Tischler, and executive officer, Lucy Quartermain, said it was exciting to be taking on the new event and changing the format.
Ms Quartemain said BAPS now owned the naming rights to the Victorian Sheep Show and expected the new date to attract more entries and more breeders.
The June 23 date was a much better time than the previous date, she said.
The society was working towards a "bigger and better sheep show" attracting more entries and exhibitors for both the Show and Sale.
Mr Tischler said he was looking forward to "offering more in the way of things to see and do".
The society hoped to attract fans of woolen fashion, food and fibre as it looked to showcase stall holders and products, he said.
The Ballarat Sheep Sheep show had been held since 1881 as a place where wool growers and prime lambs were showcased. In the past 40 years an annual ram sale was introduced to give producers an option to sell off farm.
Ms Quartermain said the traditional Merino Ram Sale would continue but the society would also consider involvement of other breeds in the sale.
