Quality shone through at the annual Ballarat feature joined female sale on Friday in a yarding of 1400 cattle.
Buyers were selective with best competition on well bred and presented female cattle with the tops of the joined heifers selling to $2180 while young heifers with calves at foot topped at $2060.
TB White and Sons director Leo White, said the presentation of the lead runs of the joined females “was fantastic” and the second and third calvers and cws and calves were “very good”.
“Anybody that presented cattle wellwere well paid today, but as you got onto the secondary cattle, as always, were tough enough,” he said.
He said the Wimmera Downs cattle from Stawell were beautifully presented, everything right about them, sold well.
“It’s a great opportunity to buy these young females. Even at $1500 you bought a pretty handy heifer when you can sell old cows for $1200 up to $1500,” he said.
“It’s a terrific time to be changing over. You won’t be paying this sort of money next year it’ll be another $1000.”
“It’s a terrific time to be updating your herd. Once we see a sniff of rain it will change dramatically.
Top price in the joined heifers was the top pen from a draft of 100 Angus heifers sold account the Stewart family, Wimmera Downs, Navarre. The top pen sold for $2180 for 24 Toora West bred heifers, September/October 2016 drop and in calf to Banquet blood bulls. The seconds of 21 sold for $2120.
Of the young heifers with calves at foot the best was $2060 11 Franc blood heifers with Langi Kal Kal blood calves at foot. The vendor was Allan Pearce, Hilderleigh, Bullarto South.
