The 28th annual Stock & Land Beef Week provides producers with an important opportunity to showcase, market and develop their breeding operation, while sharing experiences and knowledge with their fellow participants.
The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) is excited to present the 8th annual Heifer Challenge as part of the 2019 Beef Week celebrations.
The Heifer Challenge is a unique opportunity for studs to gain valuable insight, feedback and advice on herd replacement female stock and how to improve trait selection to strengthen the overall bloodlines of the herd. The program has a proven record of improving exposure of the finalists’ annual bull sales, leading to positive sale results.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the impact on livelihoods of many Beef Week participants as a result of the drought.
I know the communities will remain resilient and support each other throughout this difficult time.

This year’s judge, Dean Afford, of South Australia, will assess entries based on breed characteristics, maternal potential, feet and legs, uniformity, temperament and overall presentation and physical correctness.
Mr Afford has had over 40 years’ experience in the industry and his breeding philosophy is that cattle should have a good temperament, be structurally and functionally sound, fertile, and have the ability to reliably to meet the breeders target market. We are looking forward to bringing Mr Afford and his wealth of experience to the Heifer Challenge’s entrants.
Congratulations to the team behind Stock & Land’s Beef Week and I wish all participants the best for a successful Beef Week and bull selling season.
