Severe weather warning for damaging winds has been issued for parts of Central, East Gippsland and West and South Gippsland forecast districts.
The Bureau of Meteorology said a strong and squally cool change was expected during Friday afternoon.
A strong cold front will cross the State today, expected to reach Melbourne around 4pm and Bairnsdale around 8pm.
Damaging winds, averaging 60 to 70km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100km/h are expected with and immediately following the cold front during the afternoon and evening across the warning area.
Winds are expected to ease around two hours following the passage of the front.
Locations which may be affected include Geelong, Melbourne, Traralgon, Moe, Bairnsdale and Orbost.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines;
