THE calves offered at the southern weaners sales may be a bit lighter than past years due to the tough spring, but that’s not expected to affect the quality of the cattle which buyers have come to expect at these premium sales.
While there was some patchy rain before Christmas, helping to push along the pasture growth in regions such as the Central Tablelands and Central West, the successive days of hot temperatures in the lead up to the sales did have some vendors unsure of the buyer competition.
The Wodonga sales kick off today and agents have 7000 head for auction.
Unlike last year when Wodonga sold across three days, this year the sales have returned to a two-day format.

Next Thursday and Friday those same agents will do it all again, but with mixed breed weaners and grown cattle.
