A special Kyneton market of 650 store cattle has meet solid competition on the eve of Christmas.
With two NSW feedlot orders in place along with keen local support the market tracked on similar path to the previous Kyneton store cattle market held two weeks early.
Kieran McGrath, McGrath Rodwells Livestock said the 300 steers and 270 heifers yarded reflected the improved season conditions of the local district.
Our local buyers were keen, the two feeder orders wanted cattle and prices stayed much the same” said Mr McGrath.
Local restocker, John Dynan, purchased 20 Angus steers for his Pyalong property that averaged 297c/kg for 400kg. Weighed at 411kg and 380kg, these made $1220 and $1160 respectively for H & J Dettmann of Kyneton.
Helen Bennett, Mia Mia, was another to sell Angus steers, 380kg at $1160.
Dean Coxon, Elders, said the participating crowd was small but those attending were keen to buy. He said a few weaners normally kept for their January weaner sale were cleared but secondary quality struggled despite the local area remaining green.
