For generations, the scholarship program at PLC Melbourne has been a means for girls to attend the college who otherwise might not have been able to do so.
“For those girls coming from the city, from rural and regional backgrounds as well as overseas, these scholarships have helped transform their lives and set them on their pathway to outstanding future careers and personal endeavours,” said PLC director of development Antony Hankin.
For those girls coming from the city, from rural and regional backgrounds as well as overseas, these scholarships have helped transform their lives and set them on their pathway to outstanding future careers and personal endeavours. Boarding scholarships in particular enable girls in the boarding house to broaden their experiences.
“Boarding scholarships in particular enable girls in the boarding house to broaden their experiences and they greatly benefit for the opportunities to access the college’s extensive facilities after school and on weekends.”
In 2017, the college opened its magnificent new Performing Arts Centre featuring a 550 auditorium and state-of-the-art new music rehearsal and performance spaces.
Work has begun on a new high-tech, multi-zoned Year 12 Centre that will support girls undertaking the VCE and IB and provide a comfortable, relaxing and specialised living and learning environment for the senior girls.
The college’s next major project will be a new sports complex that will completely replace the college’s existing, aged sports facilities.
The commencement of this project will be announced shortly.
The college, located in Burwood, 14km east of the CBD, was established for young women in 1875.
It offers a wellbeing program of pastoral care, mentoring, chaplaincy and counselling services, and a range of activities beyond the classroom.
“The college highly encourages rural and regional girls to apply for one of the many general excellence, music, sporting, academic or boarding scholarships on offer,” Mr Hankin said.
“Families of PLC Old Collegians are particularly encouraged to apply, as are Christian families.”
